Joker: Folie à Deux: A Review by Possibly the Only Person Who Loved It

Well… When I say I loved it, I actually kinda hated it. But that’s only because they ripped my heart out of my chest by killing off Arthur Fleck. I did NOT see the ending coming, and it’s the exact opposite of what I wanted for him. Like anyone else, I wanted to see Arthur free, causing chaos with Harley. But what we actually got was anything but.

General Observations

I went into the movie knowing pretty much NOTHING about it. I had avoided all spoilers, talk of plot lines — I didn’t even know that it was a musical.

The majority of the movie was set in the prison, the courtroom, or in Arthur’s own head, where he hallucinated scenes of himself dancing, singing and being happy with his new romantic interest, Harley — or Lee, as she called herself. Even when he did escape the courtroom after his fans set off a car bomb, he didn’t have much freedom at all before he was caught up to and re-arrested.
